Raleigh Area Land Trust Launches “Foundation for Our Future” Campaign with Matching Challenge from Tom and Pat Gipson
The well-known philanthropists aim to increase community support for affordable housing in Wake County
Families across Wake County are facing rising housing costs and fewer options for long-term affordability. To meet this urgent need, the Raleigh Area Land Trust (RALT) has launched its Foundation for our Future campaign, a fundraising effort to expand permanently affordable homeownership opportunities.
Longtime Raleigh homebuilders and philanthropists Tom and Pat Gipson have stepped forward to accelerate the campaign’s impact, pledging $150,000 if the community can raise $300,000 by December 31st. If the goal is met, the campaign will generate $450,000 to create and preserve affordable homes in Wake County.
“We believe that everyone deserves the stability of an affordable home,” said Tom Gipson. “Our family has been part of Raleigh’s growth for decades, and supporting RALT is a way to give back to the community we love. We hope this challenge inspires others to join us in creating solutions that will last for generations.”
Funds raised through the campaign will help RALT create permanently affordable homes for low- to moderate-income families. Using a community land trust model, RALT holds the land in trust to keep home prices affordable not just for the first buyer, but for generations to come—helping working families stay rooted in the community they serve.
“Tom and Pat’s generosity sets the stage for our most ambitious campaign yet,” said Kevin Campbell, Executive Director of RALT. “If our community can raise $300,000, their gift will unlock another $150,000. Together, we can expand the number of families we serve and strengthen the future of affordable housing in Wake County.”
RALT currently has 14 homes for sale in Apex and Raleigh and 18 additional homes under construction at the Cottages of Idlewild. The Foundation for our Future campaign runs through December 31st, 2025. Community members can participate by making a gift, spreading the word, or encouraging others to support affordable housing through RALT.
